Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah has hinted that he is ready to replace Alexandre Lacazette if the Frenchman is sold in the summer transfer window. In other news, the Gunners may be able to raid Barcelona in the event that Martin Odegaard decides against a permanent move to north London, while Mikel Arteta’s search for a new right-back goes on. Express Sport brings you the latest transfer news from the Emirates Stadium.
Nketiah stakes claim amid Lacazette rumours
Lacazette’s future at Arsenal appears to be uncertain amid reports that his relationship with Arteta has deteriorated in recent months.
Nketiah, who has rarely featured for the Gunners this season, has suggested that he could be a ready-made replacement for the 29-year-old.
He admitted that although his recent lack of action has been disappointing, it has not affected his desire to work hard in order to prepare for his next chance to impress, which could arrive if Lacazette is sold in the summer transfer window.
“It has been difficult, I have not played as much as I would have liked,” said Nketiah.
“I have worked hard and stayed dedicated and that has added to the frustration. It is a part of football but one that you don’t want to be involved in.
JUST IN: Arsenal have £35m Odegaard transfer alternative who loves the Emirates
“I believe in my ability, so obviously I think I am capable of playing and helping the team. So obviously it is frustrating not playing.
“But you have to channel that frustration in a good way, use your time wisely to work hard and prepare for when that opportunity arises.”
Coutinho could provide Odegaard transfer alternative
Arsenal are keen on keeping hold of Odegaard beyond the end of the season, but could face a challenge to recruit the Norway international on a permanent basis if Zinedine Zidane is sacked as Real Madrid boss.
The midfielder became disillusioned with life at Los Blancos in the first half of the campaign, with Zidane failing to provide him with regular first-team opportunities.
However, if Real miss out on silverware this season and the Frenchman leaves in the summer, Odegaard could be set to return to the fold in the Spanish capital.
Although this would come as a big blow for Arsenal, they could look to sign Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona as a cut-price replacement.
The Brazilian creator will be available for as little as £35million at the end of the campaign, with the Catalan giants keen to find a new club for the 28-year-old according to Spanish newspaper Sport.
Gunners eyeing La Liga ace to replace Bellerin
Hector Bellerin has been at the centre of speculation surrounding a move away from Arsenal in recent weeks.
The Spaniard could be allowed to leave at the end of the campaign, with a number of European sides said to be keen on his services.
The Gunners have been linked with the likes of Achraf Hakimi and Tariq Lamptey as of late, but could instead look to land Real Betis defender Emerson Royal, who is being tracked ahead of a possible approach according to Mundo Deportivo.
However, the 22-year-old’s situation is more than a little complicated.
He is currently on a two-year loan at Betis from Barcelona, the club he originally joined in 2019 before immediately being shipped out to their La Liga rivals.
Once Royal’s temporary deal expires at the end of the season, Barca will have the option to sign him on a three-year contract.
Newly-appointed club president Joan Laporta is said to be eager to tie down the full-back this summer, which could force Arsenal director Edu into turning his focus elsewhere.
