Arsenal are reportedly eyeing a free move for Costa following his Atletico departure
The Spain striker scored 59 goals in 120 appearances for their London rivals Chelsea
Costa is understood to have held informal discussions with Arsenal, who are on the hunt for a new striker in January.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is expected to leave the Emirates after falling out with manager Mikel Arteta, meaning a replacement is needed this month.
And Costa, who scored 59 goals in 120 appearances for their London rivals Chelsea, is being eyed as a potential short-term option.
Arsenal face competition for his signature, nevertheless, as Brazilian sides Corinthians and Sao Paolo, along with Spanish team Cadiz, are also believed to be interested.
