Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took Democratic strategist James Carville to task for blaming President Biden’s reelection challenges on “preachy females.”
“Maybe he should start a podcast about it,” AOC posted Sunday on X. “I hear men are really underrepresented in that space.”
In an interview published Saturday, Carville bemoaned perceived political correctness to New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd.
While talking about Biden’s trouble courting Black male voters, the Dem pundit said: “A suspicion of mine is that there are too many preachy females” setting the tone in the party.
“‘Don’t drink beer. Don’t watch football. Don’t eat hamburgers. This is not good for you,’” he continued. “The message is too feminine: “‘Everything you’re doing is destroying the planet. You’ve got to eat your peas.’”
In the event, Carville has a podcast.
This weekend wasn’t the first time Ocasio-Cortez has taken exception with his take on the lay of the political land.
“[T]he average audience for people seriously using the word ‘woke’ in a 2021 political discussion are James Carville and Fox News pundits so that should tell you all you need to know,” the New York Dem tweeted in response to a Carville tirade against so-called woke culture.
In the recent interview, Carville, the guru for former President Bill Clinton’s campaign, also lamented the state of academia. He recounted telling one of his students at Louisiana State University that correctly easing a cork out of a champagne bottle would produce “the sigh of a satisfied woman.” He told Dowd that after the student complained about the comment, drawing a dean’s admonition, he was done with teaching.
Carville also compared reading Biden’s poll numbers to “walking in on your grandma naked. You can’t get the image out of your mind.”
Online reactions ranged from someone asking, “Is he still alive?” to memes such as “The Simpsons” faux-headline gif “Old Man Yells at Cloud.”
