Anne Robinson, 76, was announced as the new host of Countdown on Steph’s Packed Lunch today. Discussing her role, she said she was “thrilled” to be taking over from Nick Hewer, 76, and joked there was “no time for another face lift” to compete with Rachel Riley, 35, and Susie Dent, 56.
She said: “I am beyond thrilled to be joining Countdown. The show is almost as old as I am and just as historic.
“I am particularly excited to be working alongside the Show’s two other formidable women.
“Worryingly, Susie and Rachel are not only very smart but younger, prettier and thinner than me.
“Sadly, there’s no time for another facelift so I’ll have to make do with this old one.”

Speaking to Steph McGovern today, who branded her the “queen of mean,” she said: “I promise you, I’ve had my family here, two grandsons, daughter and son-in-law, it seems like a year they’ve been here, with the screaming as I call it.
“I have really been practising to be nice, not always successfully, but I am going to tone down my nastiness.”
On working with Susie and Rachel, she added: “I am slightly scared of those brains, I think the three of us will transform things.”
She went on to urge viewers to “please keep watching” as she called for there to be “more female contestants”.
