Instacart is responding to allegations that one of its drivers shot and killed Angie Harmon’s dog while delivering food over the holiday weekend.
The company said in a statement to the Daily News that it was “deeply saddened and disturbed to hear about this incident.
“We have no tolerance for violence of any kind, and the shopper account was immediately suspended from our platform,” continued Instacart. “We have been in direct contact with the customer and are cooperating with law enforcement on their investigation.”
The 51-year-old “Rizzoli & Isles” star accused the driver Monday in a somber Instagram post, which featured a carousel of images of the late pup.
“This Easter weekend a man delivering groceries for Instacart shot & killed our precious Oliver,” wrote the “Law & Order” alum. “He got out of his car, delivered the food & THEN shot our dog. Our ring camera was charging in the house, which he saw & then knew he wasn’t being recorded. The police let him go b/c he claimed ‘self defense.’ He did not have a scratch or bite on him nor were his pants torn. He was shopping under a woman’s identity named Merle… the pic is on my story. He shot our dog with my daughters & myself at home & just kept saying, ‘yeah, I shot your dog. Yeah I did.’ We are completely traumatized & beyond devastated at the loss of our beloved boy & family member. #RIP OLLIE.”
PETA, Debra Messing, Allison Janney, and Linda Evangelista were among the commenters who expressed their shock, outrage and sympathy on behalf of Harmon and her family.
The animal organization said it was “so deeply sorry and heartbroken to hear about this tragic loss of sweet Oliver.”
“That is so devastating and horrific and traumatizing. I can’t fathom anyone being that sick and callous to kill a family dog for no reason!” said the “Will & Grace” star.
Janney noted she was “horrified and beyond disbelief,” adding she “can’t even begin to imagine.”
“I’m so very sorry for you and your family,” said Evangelista.
