Andrew Neil blasts ‘far-left agitators’ behind GB News boycott – ‘Woke nonsense’

The chairman of the UK’s newest network condemned the Stop Funding Hate group, who started the boycott, as opponents of a free society. Speaking on his Mediawatch show on Thursday night, Mr Neil took shots at the political group and the companies that gave into their demands.

He said: “It is quite remarkable that serious executives and well-established companies can be so easily cowed.

“They have all taken the knee to Stop Funding Hate. It is important they – and you – realise to whom they are in thrall.

“Stop Funding Hate does not stand for a liberal, inclusive society. It is dominated by far left agitators and cranks that push for advertiser boycotts of any media organisation with which it disagrees.”

The Right-leaning TV channel launched on Sunday has promised to challenge cancel culture and woke behaviour.

Mr Neil said the channel will “puncture the pomposity of our elites in politics, business, media and academia and expose the growing promotion of cancel culture for the threat to free speech and democracy that it is.”

The Stop Funding Hate group began the movement in an attempt to starve Britain’s newest channel of advertising income.

However, since it started, many companies have retracted their position.

On Thursday, Moneysupermarket, which joined the boycott only one day prior, reversed its decision to “pause” its advertising space on GB News.

He said: “Woke nonsense has reached the boardroom and corporate capitalism is becoming the useful idiot of bigots bent on censorship.”

The GB News chairman further warned the companies not to get on the “wrong end” of the new channels “millions of supporters”.

Mr Neil said: “GB News viewers are incensed with advertisers who’ve taken against us.

“Many have written to tell them so. And their numbers are growing.

“For three nights in a row this show has been the number one rated show on any news channel available in the UK.

“Add our audience, friends, allies and sympathisers together and we can muster millions of supporters on social media. Not a good idea to be on the wrong end of them.”
