All 141 areas in England where Covid infection rate is rising as restrictions ease

The new data shows more than a third of local authority areas are reporting increases in cases. In the week up to March 24, the infection rate went up in 45% of the council areas in England and stayed level in six areas, reports In your area.co.uk.

In the other 168 areas (54% of the 314 local authority districts in England) the infection rate went down, according to the latest data from Public Health England (PHE).

Corby in Northamptonshire remains the place with the highest coronavirus infection rate in the country, with 168 confirmed cases in the week ending March 24. This gives the town an infection rate of 232.6 cases per 100,000 people.

The second highest infection rate is in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, where there were 169.5 cases per 100,000 population in the same period.

But the lowest infection rate in England is in Cotswold, Gloucestershire, where there were just six confirmed cases for the same week, which was four fewer than the previous week.

The infection rate in Cotswold is now 6.7 cases per 100,000 people.
