The popular supermarket inadvertently upset some of their fans with a social media post on Instagram. The image showed a red cast iron casserole dish with the caption: “Mum’s just want one thing”. It wasn’t long before Aldi shoppers started commenting online, according to MyLondon. Some customers loved the product, whereas others were furious and claimed the gift was “sexist”. Aldi has been contacted for comment but has yet to reply.
The image was posted on Aldi’s official special buy Instagram account.
It read: “Mums just want one thing and it’s the Red Casserole Pots from the Aisle of Aldi.
“Online now, in store Sunday! #AisleofAldi #ILoveAldi”
One Instagram user said: “Is this a joke? A casserole dish?! Have I just been blasted back to the 1950s?!”
Another commented: “That’s so sexist”
A third said: “I can assure you, that’s not the one thing us mum’s want”
A fourth added: “You know dad’s cook right…?”
But not everyone was critical of the casserole dish and Instagram post.
One superfan wrote: “These are the best thing I own”

The dishes are also available online – although they’re clearly popular as they’ve already sold out.
The casserole dish is oven safe up to 250°C and can be used on all types of hobs including gas and electric.
Aldi says the dish is easy to clean – perfect if you want to make a delicious stew or ragu.
The supermarket is also selling a pastel pink and shallow red version of the casserole dish priced at £24.99 and £19.99.
