Sydney artist pokes fun at Scott Morrison’s response to the flood emergency with a massive new inner-city mural – as Australia prepares to go to the polls

  • Social media users laughed at the PM’s image saying he looked too skinny
  • The street mural artist has caricatured other world leaders and celebrities

An iconic artist has mocked Scott Morrison’s reputation for photo opportunities with a giant mural of the PM pretending to clean up in Lismore via a green screen.

Scottie Marsh’s freshly-painted caricature of the prime minister shows him play-acting for the cameras as he sweeps up rubbish in a carefully stage-managed set up.

The irreverent wallpainting of the PM in a hi-viz vest while wearing a Hawaiian lei-style floral necklace sparked applause when a picture of it was posted on Reddit.

One user said it needed to be ‘painted on semi trailers across the country’ in a dig at a truck-mounted ad which poked fun at Labor leader Anthony Albanese this week.

Another commented on Morrison’s physique in the picture which made him appear far too slim to be real, he said, and added: ‘I know this is fake because he has hair.’

Others said it was an ‘amazing’ and ‘brilliant’ piece of work.

The Sydney creative whizz is seen in the photo putting finishing touches on the masterpiece with the PM saying, ‘The greenscreens gonna look like Lismore, right?’

It comes a month after Morrison jetted to Lismore when the region was devastated by the recent floods but he then snubbed the chance to meet locals on camera.

They had accused the government of not acting quick enough with clean up efforts. It sparked comparisons with his holiday in Hawaii in the midst of the 2019 bushfires.

Marsh’s work is internationally renowned with the artist being described as an ‘Australian Banksy’.

Last year the street artist painted a mural of China’s communist leader Xi Jinping morphed as Winnie the Pooh, with the caption ‘where is Peng Shuai?’ about the Chinese tennis player.

The new treatment of Scomo can be seen on the corners of Wyndham and McEvoy Streets in Alexandria, according to Reddit.
