If you’re looking for a new game to play this weekend but don’t want to spend any cash, then you should head over to the GOG store and take advantage of the latest giveaway. A game that typically costs £19.99 on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Marketplace and Steam, Book of Demons is currently available as a free download for anybody with a GOG account. Simply sign in, click on the ‘Add to Library’ button, and Book of Demons is yours to download and keep forever.
Book of Demons is a cross between a hack-and-slash action game and a Deckbuilding adventure.
Players can equip their characters with classic fantasy weapons, before unleashing magic spells using the various cards in their possession.
The developer is keen to point out that while it’s not an out-and-out card game, selecting the perfect hand is the key to success.
“It’s not a card game, but items, spells, and skills are all expressed as cards,” reads the official description.
“The strategy lies in adapting your hand to each situation. Cards can be upgraded with runes and you can find many variants with diverse bonuses. Legendaries are the most epic but hard to acquire.”
Book of Demons also features procedurally-generated dungeons for almost infinite replayability, not to mention a roguelike mode for an extra challenge.
One really neat feature is the use of the Flexiscope engine, which gives players the ability to divide the game into sessions of any size.
The engine learns your pace of gaming and predicts the time to complete the next session, which means you can potentially play in short bursts.
It also features a beautiful art style with a pop-up book aesthetic that pays homage to the original Diablo.
It all adds up to what is an extremely good game, which has earned a ‘Very Positive’ rating on Steam with more than 8,000 votes.
The free gaming giveaway runs until Monday afternoon, so you have a few days left to take advantage.
