7 juveniles wounded in shooting outside Indianapolis mall

Seven kids were wounded in a shooting outside a downtown Indianapolis mall, police said Sunday.

All seven juveniles were between ages 12 and 17, authorities said. They were all in stable condition at a local hospital by Sunday.

Gunfire erupted near Circle Centre Mall around 11:30 a.m. Saturday, police said. Officers patrolling the area heard the gunshots and responded to the scene.

Responding cops found a large group of teenagers and pre-teens, with six victims suffering from gunshot wounds, according to Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Deputy Chief Tanya Terry.

A seventh victim later arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound, cops said.

One of the victims was initially in critical condition but later upgraded to stable, according to authorities.

Police have not publicly identified any of the victims, described a potential suspect or speculated on a motive for the shooting. Investigators believe multiple weapons were used in the shooting but did not say if they recovered any from the scene.

“Once again, we have a situation in which young people are resolving conflict with firearms, and it has to stop,” Terry said. “Conflict should not lead to somebody pulling out a gun and trying to resolve it. The consequences are eternal.”

It was the third straight weekend mass shooting in Indianapolis. Early March 24, one person was killed and five others wounded in a shooting outside a bar on the city’s east side.

And early March 16, another person was killed and five more wounded in a shooting inside a bar in the Broad Ripple neighborhood.
