An investigation is underway in Massachusetts after a baby boy was found unresponsive in a car and later died, authorities said Wednesday.
Police were called to a parking lot in Lexington around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and discovered the 1-year-old child in the back of a vehicle. The car was parked near the Sol Solecito daycare center.
The boy, whose name has not been released, was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office said.
According to NBC 10 in Boston, the owners of daycare center said the little boy was one of their clients. They told reporters his mother never dropped him off at the daycare center Tuesday morning, and only realized she had accidentally left him alone in the car when she came back to pick him up.
The circumstances behind the boy’s death remain under investigation and it’s unclear whether any charges will be filed.
