A man was killed and a woman critically wounded in New London, Conn. in what authorities suspect was an attempted-murder suicide.
Officers with the New London Police Department were called on Saturday to an apartment on Hawthorne Drive to investigate reports of a shooting, NBC Connecticut reported. When they arrived on the scene just after 9:30 a.m., authorities found two victims suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Both victims were treated on scene before they were taken to the hospital, where one of them, a 31-year-old man was pronounced dead. The second victim, a 30-year-old woman, remained hospitalized in critical condition as of Saturday afternoon.
Their identities have not been released. Police said the man’s name is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin, while the woman’s identity will not be released as she’s currently considered a victim of domestic violence.
Officers also found two children, ages 5 and 9, inside the residence. They did not appear to be physically harmed, but were taken to the hospital to be evaluated, police said.
“Preliminarily, our agency is investigating what appears to be an incident of domestic violence and attempted murder/suicide,” according to authorities.
